At first we think that this is a movie set in the 19th century and this village is havingproblems with some creatures in the woods: the people of the village do some rituals to keep them away and also it is forbidden to go beyond the woods. If someone transgresses the woods, the monsters aregoing to attack the village. That is why people always are afraid to go out of the village. Besides they are scared because they find some farm animals dead.
But then, as story unfolds, we find thatall of this –the creatures, the dead animals and all the village- are a charade. Walker, the chief elder and a former professor of American history, with some friends decided to establish a remotevillage, so far away from society and start a new life set in the 19th century with all the traditional practices, habits and way of speaking according to that century. Why did they do this?
Walker andfriends have something in common: a beloved one, a familiar or a friend that was murdered in a heinous act. They all met in a group therapy which objective was to face the dead of loved ones in thehalf 20th century. Walker, who was a powerful and rich man, and his friends decided to escape from that horrible society and start a new community far away from the city’s violence and they start toscare people so they don’t try to escape form the village.
