Washington, November 21 .- The U.S. lawmakers on Monday abandoned its efforts to control the country's growing debt, a sign that Washington probably can not resolve a dispute overtaxes and spending through 2013.

The admission of defeat by Republicans and Democrats "super committee" of 12 members of Congress may strengthen the perception among voters andinvestors that politicians are too divided to address the budget deficit of a trillion dollars.

"Despite our inability to narrow the significant differences of the committee, we put anend to this process united in our belief that our nation's fiscal deficit must be addressed and we can not let the next generation to solve it," said the Rep. Jeb Hensarling and Sen.Patty Murray in a joint statement.

But lawmakers are less willing to reach an agreement as they put their attention on the campaign for presidential and legislative elections ofNovember 2012.

The accusations began minutes after the announcement.

President Barack Obama said in the White House that the Republicans had scuppered the negotiations by refusingto consider tax hikes on the rich.

"They will not move from that position of negotiation and so far the refusal was the main obstacle that has prevented Congress reach anagreement to further reduce the deficit," Obama said at the White House.

Obama blamed the Republicans lack of leadership and said that Democrats were unwilling to consider a fundamentalreform of health programs operated by the Government that could stall the economy in the coming decades as the population ages.

The panel waited until after the markets close at 2100GMT to formally declare his effort failed, but the actions on Wall Street had already played at least a month due to fears for the debts out of control in Europe and the U.S.
