Introduction.

Astronomy is the scientific study of celestial objects like stars, comets, planets and galaxies. It is derived from Greek words astron and nomos which mean 'star' and 'law' respectively. It is related with formation and development of the universe, motion of celestial objects, evolution, physics and chemistry.
Since the 20th century, the field of astronomy has got divided intotwo branches: observational and theoretical. Astronomy holds a wealth of amazing information one could ever imagine. Books after books have been written to coves these interesting facts about astronomy. Few astronomy fun facts including facts about galaxies, the comet Hale Bopp and neutron stars are presented in this section. Hope you will find these astronomy facts interesting and informative.
Wehave nine planets in our Solar System. These planets circle around the sun (as I’m sure you know already) this is called orbits. A lot of astronomy people like to think of the Solar System been made up in two parts. We have the Inner Solar System which has Mercury, Venus, Earth and not forgetting Mars. These are closest to the sun and are called the terrestrial planets simply because the have verysolid rocky surfaces. The Outer Solar System has Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune these are sometimes called the gas giants
Out past Neptune you’ll find the small planet of Pluto which has a solid but icier surface. Many don’t class this as a planet anymore but you can read this on the Pluto page. These two systems are separated by the asteroid beltOur Solar System also contains comets, moons, dust, gas and some minor planets.

Fun Facts About The Sun.

Fun Facts About The Sun.

The Sun is 4.5 billion years old and produces 383 billion trillion kilowatts of energy. As well the sunlight takes 8 minutes to reach the Earth and is responsible for the ocean currents and weather patterns on our planet. However the Earth orbits the Sun in an elliptical uneven orbit and the distance betweenthem varies depending on where the Earth lies in that orbit. The Sun is only an average size for a star but still accounts for 98% of the total matter in our solar system. And the solar wind produced by the Sun extends to about 50AU, where AU is the distance from the Earth to the Sun. As the lightning in the sky is nearly 3 times hotter than the Sun. The Sun produces so much energy, that everysecond the core releases the equivalent of 100 billion nuclear bombs. Light from the sun takes 8 minutes to reach you, thus you see the sun as it was 8 minutes ago. It might have blown up 4 minutes ago and you wouldn't know about it. If the sun were the size of a dot on an ordinary-sized letter 'i', then the nearest star would be 10 miles away .As a result of all that every year the sun evaporates100,000 cubic miles of water from Earth (that weighs 400 trillion tonnes!)

Fun Facts About The Moon

Fun Facts About The Moon

Moon is the only non-Earth object upon which a man has walked..Dr. Eugene Shoemaker's love for the moon was so much that after his death, his ashes were scattered over the moon by the Lunar Prospector spacecraft in 1999.The giant footprint left on the moon dust byastronaut Neil Armstrong is believed to be the oldest footprint.Every year the moon is moving away from the Earth by 3 cm. I know it’s kind of confusing, but the only real name for the Earth’s Moon is “the Moon”. When the Moon was given its name, astronomers didn’t know that there were moons orbiting other planets. And so they just called it the Moon. Now that we know there are other moons, it allcomes down to the capitalization. The Earth’s moon is referred as “the Moon”, with a capital “M”. Other moons are given a lowercase “m” to show the difference. Want an easy way to lose some weight? Take a trip to the Moon and stand on its surface. Since the pull of gravity on the Moon is only 17% the pull of gravity on the Earth, you’ll feel much lighter. Just imagine, if you weighed 100 kg on...
