INTRODUCCION
La forma más antigua de evaluar la audición de un determinado individuo es utilizando el lenguaje. Desde el momento en que el clínico entabla una conversación consu paciente, está evaluando indirecta o informalmente su capacidad para escuchar y comprender el lenguaje.
Es oportuno recordar la diferencia que existe entre oír, escuchar y comprender. Oír es la percepción del sonido por el oído: Se oye aunque no se preste atención, en cambio escuchar requiere un acto volitivo: se escucha cuando se está atento a lo que se oye. Cuando entendemos lasignificación de los sonidos o fonemas, entonces comprendemos.
Para comprender no es necesario oír ni escuchar, se puede entender por señas. Al fin y al cabo las palabras son una serie de signos fónicos mediante los cuales nos ponemos en relación con nuestros semejantes.
