RESUMEN Se colectaron hojas, tallo y flores de Ipomoea quamoclit en San Juan de Macarapana, estado Sucre, para obtener extractos hexánicos y metanólicos de cada órgano, a los cuales se les evalúo la actividad antibacteriana, utilizando un método desensibilidad bacteriana o técnica de difusión en agar, a tres concentraciones diferentes y se les realizó un análisis fitoquímico. Los porcentajes de obtención para los extractos metanólicos resultaron mayores que para los extractos hexánicos. Se observó resultado positivo para la prueba de alcaloides, flavonoides y polifenoles de manera general en los seis extractos; sólo el extracto metanólico del tallodio positivo para saponinas. El extracto hexánico del tallo inhibe el crecimiento bacteriano de Salmonella enteritidis, Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus y Staphylococus aureus, el extracto metanólico del mismo sólo afectó el crecimiento de Escherichia coli. El extracto hexánico de las hojas inhibió el crecimiento de Bacillus cereus y el extracto metanólico de éstas no logró inhibir el crecimientopara ninguna bacteria. El extracto hexánico de las flores sólo detuvo el crecimiento de Staphylococus aureus y el metanólico a Salmonella enteritidis, Staphylococus aureus y Bacillus cereus. Estos resultados perfilan a Ipomoea quamoclit como una fuente potencial de sustancia que puede combatir los efectos patógenos causados por las bacterias ensayadas. ABSTRACT Leaves, stems, and flowers of Ipomoea quamoclit were collected in San Juan de Macarapana, Sucre municipality of the state of Sucre, with the purpose of drawing their hexanic and methanolic extracts. The percent quantity of the latter resulted more abundant than that of the former. Each extract was phytochemically analyzed and tested forantibacterial activity at three different concentrations. Overall, positive results were obtained for alkaloids, flavonoids, and polyphenols among the six extracts, the methanolic extract from the stem being the only one having a positive result for saponins. The hexanic extract from the stems inhibited the bacterial growth of Salmonella enteritidis, Escherichia coli, Bacillus cereus, andStaphlococcus aureus, whereas their methanolic extract only affected the growth of E. coli. The hexanic extract from the leaves inhibited the growth of B. cereus, whereas their methanolic extract was unable to inhibit the growth of any bacterium. The hexanic extract from the flowers only arrested the growth of S. aureus, their methanolic one inhibiting instead the expansion of S. enteritidis, S. aureus, andB. cereus. These results cast Ipomoea quamoclit as a likely source of substances capable of counteracting the pathogenic effects of the bacteria assayed.
