Barack Hussein Obama II; born in Honolulu, United States, on August 4, 1961, known as Barack Obama, is the forty-fourth and current President of the United States. Hewas Senator for the State of Illinois from January 3, 2005 until his resignation on November 16, 2008. In addition, it is the Fifth African American legislator in the Senate of the United States, thirdfrom the era of reconstruction. He was also the first African-American candidate of the Democratic Party and is the first to occupy the Presidential post.

On February 10, 2007 he announced hiscandidacy for the Presidency of the United States and on June 3, 2008 he became the candidate of the Democratic Party. In the general election of November 4, 2008, he became President-elect after beatingRepublican John McCain, the presidential candidate taking office as the 44th President on January 20, 2009
