ABSTRACT
This research is to study the feasibility of biodiesel production from Jatropha oil by using reactive distillation. Aspen Plus 2004 was used to simulate this process. The simulationresults were validated with the Zhang’s results [3] which were simulated by using the conventional process. The results clearly indicate that the quantity of biodiesel in reactive distillation process is higher than the conventional process. The remaining of methanol is low then recycle stream for recovery methanol is not necessary. Finally, the energy requirement in reactive distillation process islower than conventional process this might be because the lower remaining of reactant.

Introduction
Biodiesel, analternative energy, is usually made from vegetable oils, animal fats or waste cooking oils mixed with alcohol. Biodiesel can be used as a pure fuel or blended with petroleum. The mixing of 20 percent by volume biodiesel with 80 percent by volume petroleum diesel is called B20. Using biodiesel in a conventional diesel engine reduced unburned hydrocarbons, carbon monoxide, and particulate mattercompared to emissions from diesel fuel. There are several techniques for biodiesel production oil such as transesterification, enzyme lipase, super critical fluid extraction, heterogeneous catalysts, pyrolysis. The transesterification reaction in Figure 1 has low production cost and the reaction time is low. This process is a reaction of the oil with an alcohol to remove the glycerin, which is aby-product of biodiesel production.

In Thailand, many materials can be used to produce biodiesel such as palm oil, sun flower, coconut and Jatropha. The Jatropha oil becomes interesting because it can be planted on various type of soil and needs minimal input or management. In this article, the reactivedistillation was used for biodiesel production instead of conventional process. Reactive distillation (RD) is a hybrid operation that combines two of the key tasks in chemical engineering, reaction and separation, in a single unit. The advantages of reactive distillation are the increasing reaction conversion and the reducing recycles costs. Therefore, the aim of this research is to develop thebiodiesel production from Jatropha oil by using reactive distillation.
Methodology
In the previous work, the simulation of biodiesel production which composes of four different continuous process flow sheets from virgin vegetable oil or waste cooking oil under alkaline or acid catalyst was developed by Zhang [3]. The simulation result by using virgin...
