DOES ANY EMPIRE HAVE GOOD INTENTIONS?

These days, Simon Schama is known as one of the most significant historians and art historians all over England; nonetheless, he did not gain acknowledgementand respect till 1995, when he wrote and presented a TV series for the BBC called Landscape. In 2000, after being some years in the USA, Schama returned to his country and the BBC hired him in orderto produce a television documentary series in which Schama would show the British history.
In fifteen documentaries, Schama narrates sundry events of noteworthy importance to the history of the UnitedKingdom. The last two chapters of this series fall on a sort of contradiction. Why do I say this? Well, in The empire of good intentions, Schama highlighted how British Empire gained geographic andpolitical dominance all over the world. Furthermore, Schama mentioned which were the British territories at that time, which included colonies, dependencies, and protectorates. In the 19th and early20th centuries, the empire reigned about one quarter of the world and had lands worldwide, including India, Ireland, Australia, the British Isles, British East Africa, British West Indies, British WestAfrica, and New Zealand. Nevertheless, British Empire did not care at all about its colonies; they just wanted to obtain economic benefit from them. The Great Famine of Ireland during the 1840s andthe terrifying conditions that British Indian suffered ate the early 1900s are just two illustrations of what was the situation all these colonies were suffering at that time. After the two World Wars,United Kingdom was feeble and could not maintain its rule over most of its colonies. As a result of this process, many countries all over the world emerged as nations and became independent.
