The Missouri Cable Restraint Training Manual was written by the Missouri Department of Conservation and the Missouri Trappers Association. We are especially indebted to John Olson(Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources) and Rick Tischaefer (formerly of the Wisconsin Trappers Association) for their permission to use portions of their recent publication, “Cable Restraints in Wisconsin—A Guide to Responsible Use,” and their helpful advice and council. We would also like to thank the members of the Wisconsin Trappers Association who donated much time, energy and dozens ofcaptured coyotes and foxes in the study of cable restraints that led to the final adoption of cable restraint regulations in Missouri. We also thank the many representative members of the advisory committee of Living Together with Hides, Hounds and Traps for their time and effort debating this and other issues dealing with traps and hunting dogs. Despite having differing view points and backgrounds,they set aside their individual preferences while we learned together, and engaged in healthy discussions and debates for several months. Finally, we reached common ground and consensus, leading to final adoption of the cable restraint regulations in Missouri. Much of the information contained in this document can be attributed to other expert snare men and several good publications on cablerestraints and snaring, and we’d like to thank the Wisconsin DNR, the Ohio DNR, Hal Sullivan, Tom Krause, Scott Huber, Rally Hess and Dan DeZarn. Much thanks to Joan McKee and Marci Porter of the Missouri Department of Conservation for pulling all the pieces together.
