Child Abuse

Unfortunately child abuse occurs more frequently than what society might think. Many times children are abused by their parents, caregivers, family, teachers or others. The problem isthat usually children do not know that they are being abused, nor to what extent. In many cases the incidents end up being unreported. In others, children continue being victims without knowing it.What is sad is that in some other cases the children never receive any help and they lose their lives because of the abuse.
There is a new case where a couple, Norman White 34, and Alegra White, 27,are accused of beating their 8 year-old daughter while naked, with a belt for about seven hours. The incident occurred on Wednesday March 17, 2010 in Crown Heights, Brooklyn. As a result, the childreceived many bruises and wounds in her arms and legs. The child informed her teacher and this was how the authorities took charge of the situation. The child received medical treatment and she and hersister are, for the moment, with a family member. The parents surrendered the next day. Ironically, the father of the child worked for some years at the Brooklyn DA’s Office, which is an organizationthat provides services for crime prevention. Since this is recent news, the entire incident is still under investigation.
The reasons why these parents acted in this manner are still unknown.Indifferently, if a child did something wrong that needed disciplinary action, this kind of reprimand is definitely out of place. These parents beat their child for many hours; which means that the wholescenario did not have an impact on them, nor any remorse for their child’s suffering. Acting in a violent manner like this only demonstrates the lack of compassion, love and respect for the child.Many times abusive parents have unrealistic expectations from their children.
