A long ride
It was a typical Monday morning in the William’s household. The members seemed to be late for the time was 7:40 am and the school bus arrived at 7:45 to pick up Taylor and Eric to drop them off at school. Mrs. Williams had a number of tasks: she had to finish serving breakfast, get Eric’s things ready for school and try to listen to the weather report on the television. “MOM, Ican’t find Mr. Bobby!! Where is Mr. Bobby?!” Eric was having a rough morning that day; he was still sleepy and couldn’t find his favorite stuffed animal, his special “friend” Mr. Bobby. “Didn’t you leave it in the table Eric? Kids come and eat you’re breakfast. You’re going to be late!” BEEP BEEP! “Oh no, the bus is here! Grab your lunches and run along!” said Mrs. Williams. Sometimes Taylor forgot thathis brother was “different”; a couple of years had passed since his brother Eric was diagnosed with autism. Autism prevents someone from interacting normally with other people and affects almost every aspect of his or her social and psychological development. Taylor had to have a lot of patience with his thirteen year old brother; he always had to be looking out for him and he couldn’t play loudmusic in his house or in the car. These were little sacrifices that Taylor had to make for his brother, but he had become used to it by now, and he understood that his brother wasn’t responsible for being the way he was. Eric had found his bear and was happily on his way to the bus with his brother Taylor by his side.
As they arrived at Grant’s Public School, the weather was a warm and sunny. The school was just a few minutes away from their house; Taylor patiently took Eric by the hand and accompanied him to his class. Luckily Eric was able to go to the same school as Taylor did, since Mrs. Williams had talked to the doctor and teachers and all agreed Eric could attend a regular school for now. The day passed rather quickly for Eric. He was very happy because he had found Mr. Bobby andwas able to have him in school. The last bell rang, Eric patiently waited for his brother Taylor at the corner they always met up at to go to the school bus. As the minutes passed by Eric saw no sign of his brother Taylor. Not knowing what to do, he decided to walk a little closer to the bus. Suddenly, Eric saw his brother being treated very aggressively by a fat, older kid, known as Chase.“TAYLOR! OVER HERE!!” Eric shouted, motioning to his brother with his hands. Taylor, red faced, looked up to see his brother shouting his name all the way across the school yard. Taylor motioned his brother to go on to the bus. Eric obeyed got into the school bus and found that it was overly crowded and his usual seat was taken. Eric, with Mr. Bobby at his hand, walked towards a seat more to the back ofthe bus. He quietly sat there rather confused. “Where was Taylor?” he thought. Eric decided to lay down on the seat to wait for his brother; before he knew it he was asleep.
Eric found himself in his room; it was different than he remembered. It had a lot of colors and posters; there were clothes everywhere, video games and an iPod. Suddenly, he heard something vibrating in his pocket. Apparentlyhe had a phone, where the caller ID read “BOBBY”. “Hello?” Eric answered. “Eric, hi! Did you finish your homework? Grab your board and come on, let’s shoot some hoops! Alex, Ricky and Jason are here too” the strange boy said from the other line. “Oh, hi Bobby! Yeah dude, I just finished the last algebra exercise. I’ll meet you at your house in five minutes” Eric said. Eric asked his momspermission, took his skateboard and left towards his friend’s house. He was a regular thirteen year old kid, who was independent, didn’t need of his older brother Taylor to look out for him and had friends. “Was this real?” he thought. They met up at Bobby’s house, played basketball, videogames, pranked called some girls in their class and ordered pizza. Eric had the time of his life, he loved being...
