Cocaine is a powerfully addictive stimulant drug that causes brain injuries even if taken once. Many celebrities had die becauseof using drugs. Some of those celebrities are Anna Nicole Smith, Elvis Presley, and Marilyn Monroe. Cocaine is made from coca plant that isgrown in only three countries. Colombia is the biggest producer and the other two that follow Colombia are Peru and Bolivia.
In cocaine factoriesthey turn coca leaves into a white powder. Another type of drug is heroin, which is made of poppy plant. Poppies are turned into heroin only inColombia. About 80 percent of the cocaine that is in the United States comes from Colombia. That’s why the United States has help Colombia in itsfight against drugs. Colombian officials try to persuade farmers to stop growing coca and poppy plants. They pay farmers to grow other cropsinstead of poppy and coca.
About 14 million people use cocaine and about nine million people in the world use heroin. In Baltimore they have a DrugTreatment Court, their goal is to help people arrested for carrying illegal drugs to stop abusing them.
Smugglers use boats and airplanes toslip that powder, cocaine, into countries around the world. People keep on demanding drugs but they don’t know the risk their taking. Kids need tohear about how risky drug use is. The earlier parents talk to their kids about drug use, the less likely they will be to use and abuse drugs.
