Colors and Marketing
Institute for Color Research reveals people make a subconscious judgment about a person, environment, or product within90 seconds of initial viewing and that between 62% and 90% of that assessment is based on color alone. Colors play an important role in our daily life; they affect our feelings, attitudes and habits.Today I try to inform you about Colors and Marketing.
Colors have different meaning and symbolism all around the world. Time and eras had determined many of these color meanings. In the Neolithicages Red ochre was the most important color because it was related to life. During the Egyptian period Red was related to the destruction and God Seth, writing or painting in red mean to kill someoneor death. Today we have a wide range of colors with different meanings and purposes.
Today in North American culture the most popular colors used in marketing and their meanings are:
Red:excitement, love, strength, speed and danger.
Blue: this is the most popular color. Trust, reliability, belonging and coolness.
Yellow: warmth, sunshine, cheer and happiness.
Orange: playfulness, warmth andvibrant.
Black: Sophistication, elegant, and seductive.
Gold: Prestige and expensive.
Silver: Prestige and elegant.
How colors can be used in marketing strategy? Colors affect consumer shoppingbehavior and brand recognition. Colors are used in publicity depending on what does the company sell, what type of customers they have and sometimes depend on the activity they are doing. I will makereference to the most popular industries that use colors to attract customers; fast food, fashion, car sales, personal care, insurance, and financial companies.
