Chapter I The English Language Structure1.1. Linguistics
The study of human language, including subjects such as phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, lexicon, sociolinguistics, and psycholinguistics (Cassidy, 1985).

1.2.1. Grammar
Is the study of the rules governing the use of a language. That set of rules is also called the grammar of the language, and each language has its own distinct grammar. Grammar ispart of the general study of language called linguistics (GNU Free Documentation, 2010).

1.2.2. Morphology
A branch of linguistics that studies and describes patterns of word formation, including inflection, derivation, and compounding of a language (Houghton Mifflin Co., 2005).

1.2.3. Semantics
The historical and psychological study and the classification of changes in thesignification of words or forms viewed as factors in linguistic development (Merriam-Webster, Incorporated, 2011).

1.2.4. Syntax
The arrangement of words in a sentence.

1.2.5. Phonology
Is the study of how sounds are organized and used in natural languages (SIL, 2004).

1.2. Parts of Speech
The parts of speech explain the ways words can be used in variouscontexts. Every word in the English language functions as at least one part of speech; many words can serve, at different times, as two or more parts of speech, depending on the context (Cool Fire Technology, 2004).

1.3.6. Nouns
A noun is a word used to refer to people, animals, objects, substances, states, events and feelings. Nouns can be a subject or an object of a verb, can be modifiedby an adjective and can take an article or determiner (Terms of Use, 2011).

1.3.7. Adjectives
An adjective modifies a noun. It describes the quality, state or action that a noun refers to (Terms of Use, 2011).

1.3.8. Verbs
Verbs are one of the major grammatical groups, and all sentences must contain one. Verbs refer to an action (Terms of Use, 2011).

1.3.9.Prepositions
A word (one of the parts of speech and a member of a closed word class) that shows the relationship between a noun or pronoun and other words in a sentence (SIL, 2004).

1.3.10. Adverbs
Are formed by adding -ly to an Adjective. An adverb is a word that modifies the meaning of a Verb; an Adjective; another adverb (Terms of Use, 2011).

1.3.11. Pronouns
A wordused instead of a noun or name, to avoid the repetition of it (Brainy Quote, 2011).

1.3.12. Conjunctions
Conjunctions join different parts of a sentence together. The very word conjunction comes from Latin words for 'join together' (Terms of Use, 2011).
