Chapter 1 – Introduction
This Paper is an introductory and practical guide for technical COBOL users, beginners. This Paper discusses the COBOL in PeopleSoft applications, PeopleSoft COBOL Configuration & Troubleshooting Tips.

Much of the information contained in this documentoriginated within the PeopleSoft Global Support Center and is therefore based on "real-life" problems encountered in the field. The issues that appear in this document are the problems that prove to be the most common or troublesome.
STRUCTURE OF THIS PAPER
This Paper provides guidance in properly understanding of COBOL and its use in PeopleSoft Applications. It covers basic understanding of COBOLcompilers and issues related to installation of compilers. It also covers FAQ of COBOL in PeopleSoft. It is recommended that you also review the information related to COBOL in PeopleTools installation guide for your PeopleTools release.
