Introduction.
This unit isthought be used to teach vocabulary of the different places of a city and also how to give instructions in a map using a meaningful contest and talking about places that normally are required. In this case it is based in the city of Plasencia, but could be adapted to any other city.
This unit use then a communicative and task based methodology.
It has been thought for pupils of 6th year of primaryeducation because younger children may not be interested in monuments or history of his city but surely pupils of 11 or 12 years old will be really interested.

LESSON PLAN STRUCTURE

-LESSON 1:

Purpose: this lesson is designed to be a presentation of the new unit, and to teach the basic vocabulary that will be used during the hole lesson (places and buildings that can be found in a city).Targeted audience: This lesson is designed for 6th year students.

Prerequisites: students need to know basic vocabulary about what is a city, a street, the difference between a house and a flat, and some basic notions of grammar (basically present simple).

Time: 50 minutes.

Objective: If students do correctly these activities, participating and paying attention, they will be able totalk about some of the most characteristic places in a city such as, park, school, cinema, etc, with a good pronunciation.

Material: Flashcards with photos of the different places and the word in the back. Pupils will also need colour pencils, felt pens, scissors, glue, and whatever they want to do their “pictionaries”.

Instructional procedures:

-Introduction: pupils will do the dailyroutine that they learn in the last unit ( to sing the Hockey Pokey).

-Teaching procedures: In this lesson I will teach the new vocabulary showing photos of the places that the words that they are going to learn represents, no translation will be needed for that because the photos are from real places in the city that they live and they know these places. I will try to use as much English aspossible and require my pupils to try to answer in English to, to help them I will tell them the words that they want to use but don´t know, and by just rephrasing and not directly correcting when they do small mistakes. To help them with pronunciation, during the games that are thought to learn the vocabulary (I spy with my little eye and hangman) we will be based in sounds instead of letters (so Iwill need to prepare it before each class to perform the pronunciation as correctly as possible).

About the “pictionaries” I will encourage pupils to be as original as possible and to use different kinds of material (they will be very interested in how to say these materials) and also to share their materials with other pupils. Pictionaries are useful because they allows pupils to review...
