Rodriguez bought his first skateboard Christmas 1996 just before he turned 12 years old. Rodriguez got his first real sponsor at age 14 in 1999 with DNA Skateboards,after sending to a sponsor a tape. He turned professional at age 17 in September 2002 after his Transworld - In Bloom video part. Rodriguez also played the lead part in the skateboarding movieStreet Dreams (film) as the lead character Derrick Cabrera.
