DIA INTERNACIONAL CONTRA LA VIOLENCIA HACIA LA MUJER
Afganistan has had many conflicts on the last years, starting by the comunist Sawr revolution on april 28, 1978 in which leftist troups made acoup d etat against the government of Mohammad Daoud Khan in which more than 1000 people died on one day. Then fundamentalist muslims helped by the United States made a gerilla to overtrow thecomunist regime, so the russian army had to get involved in the fight. In 1989 russians troups left Afganistan, but the sivil war remained. in 1996 the talibaneese people imposed their regime based on theislamic law called sharia. Then, in 2001 after the therrorist atack of the twin towers, the United States with the help of UN decided to dismember the criminal organisation of alcaheda (the one whomade the terrorist attack). Eventhought the talibaneese regime was taken down(douring the american invasion), afganistan continues being a country full of violence and civil conflicts.
Rawa is theabreviation for revolutionary women of afganistan, it was founded in 1977, in kabul by a group of activist women directed by a woman called Meena whom unfortunateley where asasinated by the russiansecret police in 1987 with the help of the fundamentalist band of Gulbuddin Hekmatyar. Their main goal is to increase whomen participation in social and political activities, with the idea of givingrights to women, and to promote a goverment based on a democratic secular ideology. Today they are invlved in many socio political activities in topics such as education, healt, work for whomen andprotests against the chauvinist actions of their government. Eventhought they have not suport form any nonguvernamental organisation they have been able to subsist in such unfair and cruel enviroment asAfganistan.
During the soviet ocupation RAWA distributed pamplets to encourage womens,refugees and kids to be part of the antifundamentalist resistance.
