Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll was born on February 2, 1977 in Barranquilla, in southern Colombia. Shakira's father William Mebarak, American-born but of Arab origin, wasa jeweler but working with the local newspaper. At fifteen, Shakira represented Colombia at theFestival de Viña del Mar in Chile, obtaining the third with the song "You." After taking the time to finish high school, Shakira was convened by Sony in 1995 to record their third album, Barefoot, which launched in Latin America thanks to hits like "I'm here," "Bare feet, white dreams" and "Where are you heart." The album sold over four million copies and shortly after the remix version of Shakira soldanother 500,000 units.
This success attracted the attention of Shakira's largest producer of Latin albums in the world, Emilio Estefan, who produced their fourth album entitled "Where Are the Thieves", released in 1998. This album of Shakira had repercussions not only in Latin America, but is sold in France, Switzerland, Canada and especially in America. Eight of the eleven songs of thisproduction were simple discs, including "Blind, deaf and dumb", "Flies in the house", "No way", "Inevitable", "You," "If you go", "Eighth Day" and the most successful for the time Shakira "Ojos Asi".
Shakira The next two years devoted himself to learning English in order to compose in that language. With the help of Gloria Stefan translated some of his songs and composed new ones.
