Sometimes criminals’ penalties are too big that throwing them in jail is not enough to make them pay their crimes. For these cases, society has invented death penalty anddifferent methods for choosing. I’m going to talk about various types of death penalty methods, and they are: hanged, lethal injection, shot to death, electric chair, and gas chamber. Each one of them hasa unique procedures and limitations as well as famous cases.
Hanging is a lethal suspension of a person by a rope or ligature. Crucifixion and impalement was also referred as hanging since the bodyalso ended up hanged. There are four types of hanging till the date and each one is different in the duration and procedures. The suspension method consists of causing death to the character by itsown weight, pressuring the trachea and blocking the jugular vein which means little or no blood flow to the brain leading to death. The second methods is the short drop, which is very similar to thesuspension method, but differs from it that an object like the back of a cart, a stool or a vehicle is provided to the victim so he can stand on it. The object is then removed and the victim remainshanging on the rope. The next method is called the standard drop, where the victim falls from a height of approximately 1.8 meters, breaking his neck to an immediate and complete paralysis,immobilization, and unconsciousness. The last and most complicated method is the long drop, since it consists of calculations of the body’s weight and age so the 3 meter high fall will not decapitate the victimbut will break his neck causing and immediate death. This last method was used to end Saddam Hussein’s life for its treason against the United States of America.
