This part of the story makes me feel sad and it also makes me think about Animata’s life – what she had to go through. This novel “ The Book OfNegroes” reminds me of asking my parents to tell me how they met like Aminata. One day, I was not having any tea with my parents like Aminata, but I was havingbreakfast when I asked my father how he and my mother met as my mother-cooked breakfast. For example, “ Tell me again, papa, about how you and mama met”.This is what Aminata asked her parents to get an idea of how they met. I also asked my mother why she was taking too long to have breakfast ready. Itold her that I wanted them to start telling about how they met as soon as possible, so also asked her what she was doing like Aminata, so would hurry up.For example, in the novel Aminata asked, “ What are you doing?”. This shows that Aminata and I sort of threw the same questions to our parents. After all, my mother and father told me how they met as Aminata’s parents told her. My father went to a different area -in his city, where he spent thenight at one of his friends’ house. In the morning, while leaving his friend’s place, my father saw my mother passing by and he immediately said on hismind that he knew she would be at least his girlfriend. For example, in the novel Aminata’s dad said, “ I knew in an instant that she would become mywife”. This illustrates that my father and Aminata’s dad were thinking pretty much the same when the first saw them.
