There are four ways of knowing according to the TOK IBO diagram. These are Sense or Perception, Language, Emotion and Reason. However arguments are set into believing that these are not the onlypossible ways of knowing. Through this essay I am going to try to set a rational argument into making a fifth way of knowing credible.
Some of the possible ways of knowing I could figure out are: Faith;Imagination; Instinct and Memory. However by rationally analyzing them I can discard quickly Memory as I think that Memory relies on Perception in order to becoming worthy. This I can say becauseeverything you remember comes through Perception as all of the information one receives and remembers is vulnerable to the subjectivity of our senses.
This leaves me with: Faith; Imagination andInstinct.
The next possible way of knowing I will discard is Imagination. Because I do not consider Imagination as a true way of knowing as I consider Knowledge to be Universal. One might get knowledgefrom Imagination but it would be a personal and subjective knowledge which I would not consider as true knowledge.
Finally I am left with Faith and Instinct.
Both of these are on my opinion powerfulways of knowledge and describing both would be an unattainable task in such a short word limit essay. Therefore I am faced with the problematic decision to choose between these two.
I decided to workon Instinct as I consider it an easier way of knowing to explain regarding my low credibility on faith as I do not consider it transcending directly but it just works as an incentive to our own mind.On my own personal opinion Instinct is an excellent way of knowing and it is related to the knowing of things that weren’t taught to us.
