My Experience with Pieter Breughel’s “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus”
Some people say first impressions are the mostimportant but others believe that they can be mistaken. The painting “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” by Pieter Breughel, has inspired many artist in writing poems and other works (Breughel,N. pag).Pieter Breughel was known for painting precious mythological scenes (Claessens, 1981). He was also known for painting the life of peasants. My first impressions when I looked at “Landscape with theFall of Icarus” by Pieter Breughel was that it was a pretty painting but when I noticed it carefully I could see more specific details that helped me understand it better.
My first impression of thepainting “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” was that it was a beautiful and enchanting painting. To me it was a stunning view with a lot of light in it. It looked like it was normal day in that placewhere everyone was doing their usual chores. I thought that everything looked calm and quiet. It was peaceful scenery, it seemed like nothing special was happening. I enjoyed the how the oceanlooked. It also gave me the impression that the weather in the painting must be nice.
When I observed the painting carefully I noticed some interesting things. I saw a man working in the field, plowing theland. There was a man with a dog herding sheep. There was another man sitting by the shore. It looked like he was looking at the sea. The painting had big mountains. I also noticed a city a littlebit farther in the painting. Once I paid more attention, I saw Icarus who fell into the water with feathers around him. Another interesting thing was that the sun was shining brightly just as it waswhen Icarus fell in the story of mythology.
After I saw the painting “Landscape with the Fall of Icarus” by Pieter Breughel for the second time my first impressions changed I understood the painting...
