Sample1 I present you with the reasons why I want to attend the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology. Actually the world is virtually getting smaller, with the globalization and the communication media, borders are vanishing. That is why knowledge is widening and the world and human demands are growing day by day. Therefore, I consider it necessary to expand andshare our perspectives in order to innovate, actualize and adapt to the technological and scientific revolution. The opportunity to go to the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology would be an excellent accomplishment. – I am now studying Computing Engineering. In this area I investigate, study, administer, develop and use all kinds of computational systems, looking for excellence,efficiency and elegance. Aside from this, I build machines with computational devices so that they can be more effective and useful. I develop computational research in order to generate new alternative technologies. From these days and on nowadays, applied computational sciences will contribute more firmly to scientific and technological development in all disciplines. So, progress is based in thisarea. I believe that with this graduate program I will be able to participate in the progress of new technologies and applications, so I can contribute in improving my environment. By attending KAUST, new questions would be revealed and consequently there would be opportunities in unknown areas, so it would compel me to be more creative and have an open mind to new possibilities. My personalinterest is nanotechnology, because it’s incredible to think that atom by atom, any substance can be changed for convenience, for example water or the heaviest metal. In addition, nanotechnology is the fabrication of nanorobots with specific objectives and other possibilities whose fundamental tool is computing engineering. Nanotechnology can be applied in all sciences to satisfy needs or solve universalhuman problems that in the future are going to be bigger and different, like global warming, waterlessness, starvation, diseases, etc. And I know that in Saudi Arabia there are interesting studies regarding these issues. In my personal opinion, I know that I will be surrounded by innumerable optimistic, friendly and enthusiastic people with different thoughts and ways to approach challenges, andthis will give me the chance to discover a new knowledge in different people and groups. Therefore, I will get a rich and colorful view that makes our world a brilliant place and will make me work harder to contribute to a friendlier and better world. I am experiencing this now because I am a mexican student in France sharing and learning new ways to face problems and opportunities. In conclusion,I know that at KAUST, I will find new challenges to solve and will discover endless possibilities, resulting in a remarkable journey. Please consider me in the KAUST graduate program, because I know that wellguided determination and interaction with others are the forces that move the world. Finally, I appreciate your attention and time, and look forward to working hard with passion andenthusiasm if admitted into KAUST. Sample 2 My current academic objective is the design of mechanical elements which are set in heavy loading situations or embedded in highly corrosive media. My purpose is to analyze and comprehend the main factors that contribute to mechanical failure in order to improve the design of all elements. This is accomplished by using new, highstrength materials, thermaltreatments or surface coatings that contribute to extend the lifetime of a given component. I would like to focus on naval, automotive or aeronautic applications. I have experience in this field of study since I took a course about design of mechanical elements in Esslingen, Germany specializing in fatigue of automotive components as well as in the basics of fracture mechanics.
