¨ Freedom Writers¨ is based on the true story of teacher Erin Gruwell (Hilary Swank). At 23 years, even with like a student, the teacher of literature ErinGruwell, is ready to conquer the world on entering public school for release as a teacher. The plot takes place in Long Beach in the Rodney King, the Wilson High School.
The institute is located ina very prosperous, but the students assigned to class 203 are classified as basket cases, impossible to teach, a group that should overcome all kinds of circumstances: poverty, poor education,criminal history, substance abuse, parents inprison and gang members unit. Erin is put in charge of a class where students belong to different social classes and backgrounds. The class is composed of AfricanAmericans, Asians and Latinos.
By presenting to the class Erin discovers that her students do not have the slightest interest in learning and she, far from giving up, as had others in their place,it was proposed to help them.. She dedicate help teach classes about tolerance and peace .
The first problem which confronts Erin is the students for their indifferent attitude, rebellious anddefiant with the teacher whom they saw as their enemy because they educate white and love them without knowing their reality. Also responsible for the library, borrow books not allow for students to read andadvise students Erin were lazy and not worth trying to educate them. Finally the teacher of literature from the third year, which does not support Erin when she was asked to intervene in order toconvince responsible for providing library books.
The teacher had to use several strategies:
- The development of a diary: Erin purchase books for all of them and tells them there writing can vent allyou want and for taking as an example and write about news past, present or future, in good times or bad.
