1.1 Antecedentes y Conceptos Basicos
Aunque sus inicios fueron discretos, en 1972 la American Production and Inventory Control Society
(APICS) adoptó la metodología y la promoviópor medio de la llamada “cruzada del MRP”, la cual se mantiene hasta nuestros días. Durante los 80’ s, el MRP se convirtió en el paradigma de control de producción en los Estados Unidos y durante los 90’ s se expandió fuertemente en México y Latinoamérica. En palabras de su creador, la gran ventaja del MRP es que “realmente funciona” (Orlicky, 1974).
El concepto detrás del MRP es su granaportación: Separar la demanda dependiente de la independiente, es decir, planear la producción de la demanda dependiente sólo en la medida en que ésta se ligue con la satisfacción de la demanda independiente.
