Dedication

To Nick, for the superior essay and for broadening my magical outlook significantly. To Jim, for the best thirteen months of my Pittsburgh years, for helping me get through the winter of 2004-5, for being one of my dearestpartners, and for the outstanding artwork for this book. To Taylor, for the foreword, the editing and hooking me up with Immanion in the first place, and for being my partner in magic, creativity and matters of the heart. I love you all.
Acknowledgements To all the wonderful people who reviewed bits and parts of this book in its varying stages of development, to those who contributed source material(especially the surprises!) and to everyone who offered their support of this project, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. You honor me by your presence in my life. To Lyssa, for the first half of the title, and for being one of “all the wonderful people” mentioned above. To Don, for the excellent copy edit (even though you sided with Taylor on the use of commas). To Social Distortion, forbraving the ice rink and for the song “Reach For the Sky” which was the impetus to get this project rolling. And to me, for finally completing a major project!

This happens in science fiction, fantasy, non-fiction publishing, and it happens in the occult publishingindustry. There are more Wicca 101 books out there than I could shake a stick at. What is lacking are approaches that involve actually creating new techniquesand approaches for doing animal magic, or, even more radically, coming up with a magical system focused entirely on animal magic. So in February of 2005, when I met Lupa via Livejournal.com and she mentioned her book, I was intrigued. My first foray into magic was shamanism, mixed in with Hermeticism, but I’d never really done any totemic magic workings or any other animal magic workings beyond...
