La Bioética no es moda pasajera, sino modos de hacer y de pensar en nuestro quehacer cotidiano del mundo sanitario, y aún más allá… con visosde permanencia. Aunque no se perciba, la Bioética ayuda a realizar valores. Los métodos que emplea para ayudar a tomar decisiones prudentes, es decir, responsables, semejan caminos de ida y vuelta, son tareas de búsqueda donde entre luces y sombras siempre hay riesgo de equivocarse. Eso es así porque el ser humano es falible, necesita orientación clara, consejo compasivo, tiempo para la reflexiónen conciencia, espacios de deliberación y discernimiento, apertura de mente y amplitud de espíritu; sin esto último, todo lo anterior no adquiere su plenitud. Para que la deliberación moral se haga realidad son necesarias ciertas condiciones individuales, talento y talante se podrían llamar; y para que en los comités de ética –para la asistencia sanitaria o de investigación clínica– puedaaplicarse aquélla es preciso que dicho proceso sea colectivo. De todo esto se habla aquí: del ejercicio profesional, de principios, tópicos y procedimientos en Bioética, pero fundamentalmente se dan razones; unas, sobre lo que se debe hacer so pena de reprobación moral y acaso sanción jurídica y, otras, de lo que se exhorta a hacer aunque no exista obligación legal de ello. No hay buena práctica sin laadecuada teoría, pero ésta no será creíble y asumible si no se comprende y concreta en la praxis. He ahí el reto, que esperamos sea fecundo. INTRODUCTION TO BIOETHICS. THE METHODOLOGY TO MAKE DECISION IN CLINICAL ETHICS Bioethics is not a passing mode, but rather theway of acting and thinking in our daily activities in the health care world, and even more, that which has a tendency to continue. Although it is not perceived, bioethics helps to establish values. The methods used to help in making wise decisions, that is, responsible ones, resembles a round trip. They are tasks that mean searching between lights and shades where there is always the risk oferring. This occurs because the human is fallible, needs clear orientation, compassionate advise, time for self-reflection, spaces for deliberation and making a judgment, opening of the mind and extension of the spirit. It is impossible to acquire all of the above without the latter. In order to convert moral deliberation into a reality, certain individual conditions are needed. These can be calledtalent and willingness. This process must be a group one so that the health care or clinical research Ethics Committee can apply all that is necessary. This all is commented on herein: professional exercise, principles, topics and procedures in Bioethics, but fundamentally, reasons are given. Some of these deal with what should be done under penalty of moral censorship and perhaps legal sanction andothers on what they are urged to do although there is no legal obligation to do so. Good practice does not exist without adequate theory, but this would not be credible and acceptable if it is not understood and done in the practice. This is the challenge and we hope it will be fruitful.
