Her parents were Mary Wollstonecraft and William Godwin.
Godwin was a philosopher and Wollstonecraft was a feminist, author of A Vindication of theRights of Women. When her mother had Mary died just a few days later.
Mary received an education from her father. He also gave her access to his extensive library, encouraged her to writestories. She had the opportunity to talk with many intellectuals and poets.
