La germinación
 
Se llama germinación al acto por el cual la semilla en estado de vida latente entra de pronto en actividad y origina una nueva planta. Dado que el embrión contenido en la semilla presenta diferentes características dependiendo de si pertenece a las monocotiledóneas o a las dicotiledóneas, deberemos estudiar la germinación de cada una por separado.

En primer lugar la semilla de poroto se hincha debido a que absorbe agua a través de la micrópila.
