Vote To Be Modified
All forms of government, in most aspects of life, whether for the better or the worse, modify a people. In the world, there are over one hundred types of government, ranging from anarchy to theocracy. Governments come in all shapes and sizes; from leaders that possess complete control to republics that elect their leaders. A democracy involves the citizensof the republic electing their officials. Regardless of the people’s involvement in the election process, the voters elect their leaders to modify themselves for the better. The United States of America has been a democracy since 1775 and currently still is. From the early days of the Constitution to 2011, the American government still modifies a people. The government is the strongest forcein the financial aspects of the taxpayer.
The United States of America’s democratic government’s involvement in the imposing of the citizens’ taxes affects the financial future of the taxpayer. Currently in Washington, D.C., politicians debate what future taxes to instate and on whom to impose them. Democrats, including President Barrack Obama, wish to place taxes on the rich in order to removesome of America’s debt. Obama creates a “Deficit Reduction Plan” to allow the President Bush era’s high-income tax cuts to expire, return the federal estate tax to its 2009 levels and reduce the value of itemized deductions to twenty-eight percent for families with incomes over $250,000. If Obama’s plan falls into action, the financial aspects of the high-income taxpayer will change by reducingthe disposable income of high-income taxpayers. The government will enforce their taxes in order to receive their money. If the high-income citizens of America decide they are not in favor of this plan and refuse to pay their due taxes, the consequences involve fines or imprisonment. This plan exemplifies the financial modification that the government possesses over the citizens. Closelyrelated to the financial security of the individual citizen are the economic aspects of the country as a whole.
The government involvement in fixing the economy modifies success of their citizens. The United States of America President during the Great Depression, Franklin Roosevelt issued the government plan, the “New Deal” to help restore the declining economy. With twenty-five percent of workersand thirty-seven percent of all nonfarm workers unemployed, Roosevelt wished to restore the faith of his country. Many abhor the idea of government involvement in the economy for fear of the government having complete control. But after assuming office, Roosevelt closed all banks and Congress passed the Emergency Banking Act to give the government the right to inspect the health of all banks. In a time of uncertainty, these precautions were successful and helped restore the faith of the American citizens in their banks. The “New Deal” also includes the National Industrial Recovery Act. This act worked for a short time, but when the wages rose, the prices followed, thus preventing consumers from buying. The cycle of overproduction and under consumption lead businesses into a slump. The act shortly became an “unconstitutional delegation of legislative power to the executive” meaning the executive branch possesses too much power. The American government failed to show its people another success. The Americans of 1930’s wondered if stability would ever come. The government’s control of the economy modifies their people’s economic security and situations. The government’s attemptleft even more in unemployment and economic downfall. The government controls not only the economic security, but the family security as well.
During numerous American wars, the government drafted countless men, changing and modifying many of their family dynamics. During the Vietnam conflict, before American troops fought, the United States sent $2.6 billion to financially support Vietnam...
