La cultura Guangala se asentó en lo que hoy se conoce como las provincias de Manabí, Guayas y Santa Elena. Se ubicaron cerca de las riveras de los ríos para tener más acceso al agua y depor ende a la pesca que fue uno de los medios de subsistencia importantes de la época. Los Guangala también ejercieron la caza y la agricultura siendo así el maíz el producto de mayor consumo de la población. La cronología más aceptada respecto a su antigüedad la sitúa entre los 500 años a.C. y 500 d.C.
No se ha podido determinar si la sociedad Guangala era igualitaria o con diferencias socialesdesde sus inicios pero se sabe que posteriormente surgieron sectores de élite y autoridades que dirigían los aspectos
fundamentales de la economía local. Esta cultura realizó intercambios con el exterior de metales, piedras exóticas e inclusive la tan conocida obsidiana. Los asentamientos de esta cultura fue creciendo paulatinamente, generándose así centros semiurbanos; se cree que las casas...
