THE POWER OF LOVE

“I am Megan Koleber fromTulsa, Oklahoma, and I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 3. My mother will never forget that day. After battling the flu for several weeks, I never seemed to get better. I was becoming more andmore lethargic every day. I lost weight, although my appetite was voracious. I was urinating constantly and always tired. Nobody could understand what was happening. I was sent to the hospitalinmediately as my blood sugars were topping 600. The family was devastated. The doctor said I had diabetes, a disease my family knew nothing about.
How could this be happening? I had been a healthy girl. Mymum wanted to hear more than that there was only one treatment – insulin. They wanted a cure but insulin was not a cure.
Well, things can change if you decide to take action. Today, I am 16 yearsold and I am doing well managing my diabetes. I am also working to help other children and people with diabetes. Over the last four years I have a dedicated diabets advocate collecting signatures topetition my state and the federal government to spend more money for diabetes research. I have learnt so much about this disease that I am working to help others now”
