Health care system
Who would not want health care to be cheap, free, available to all, and left up to the government to call the shots? America’s health care isthe most expensive in the world. Unfortunately its flaws are slowly showing. The American health care system is lacking in quality of care, coverage and low costs. Our health system spends more onlyto provideterrible health care. This system is wasteful, it does not produce enough for everyone and what it does produce consumes too many resources. Regarding coverage our health insurance is notuniversal, most rich countries are way ahead on this and everyone is covered. In the United States nearly 50 million people are not insured because of how costly health care is. Britain, Canada, andSweden have “single payer”systems in which taxes support a public service.
Some might argue that it is the responsibility of each and every American to provide for his own medical needs. That isstriking coming from Americans whose seal and coin state “E Pluribus Unum”, Latin for "out of many, one". It is appalling that a nation who prides itself on solidarity and union would not stick together onsomething as basic as the health of its citizens.
When approaching health concerns most people focus on “pointing the finger of blame”. There is always a constant debate as to who is responsiblefor the high cost of health care in the United States. Some argue it is the drug companies for spending too much money on research and generic drugs; others blame it on the baby boomers, faultyprocedures and doctor’s excessive salaries.
