Inglaterra es el territorio másextenso y más poblado del Reino Unido. Habitada por pueblos celtas desde el siglo V a. C., Inglaterra fue colonizada por los romanos entre el 43 d. C. y principios del siglo V. A partir de entoncesempezó la invasión de una serie de pueblos germánicos (anglos, sajones y jutos) que fueron expulsando a los celtas, parcialmente romanizados, hacia Gales, Escocia, Cornualles y la Bretaña francesa. Enel siglo X, tras resistir una serie de ataques vikingos, Inglaterra se unificó políticamente. Tras la ascensión de Jacobo VI de Escocia al trono de Inglaterra en 1603 y la anexión de Escocia porInglaterra en 1707 resulta menos apropiado diferenciar la historia de Inglaterra de la del resto del Reino Unido.

England is the largest territory and most populous of the United Kingdom. Inhabited by Celts from the century V a. C., England was colonized by the Romans between 43 d.C. and early V. Thereafter began the invasion of a series of Germanic peoples (Angles, Saxons and Jutes) who were expelling the Celts, Romanized part, to Wales, Scotland, Cornwall and Brittany. Inthe tenth century, after withstanding a series of Viking attacks, England was unified politically. After the ascension of James VI of Scotland to the English throne in 1603 and the annexation ofScotland by England in 1707 is less appropriate to differentiate the history of England from the rest of the UK.
