How the internet makes us stupid

In the article, “How the internet makes us stupid” by Nicolas Carr, we read about a controversial theme of how or if the internet makes us illiterate or“stupider”. According to Carr in recent years, studies have shown that we humans are becoming more scattered /superficial thinkers and readers. He speaks of how we enjoy the sensation of frequent simulation toour brain and learning new things, which basically makes the internet “human’s best friend”. Many of us nowadays are seriously relying on the internet for everything and not really using it correctly.Instead of spending countless hours on Facebook or Tweeter, why not expand your knowledge and research topics of interest? For example, when I go to msn to check my email, I always manage to find anewspaper article that catches my attention and learn about what’s going on around me. The problem is that then I find another article and another and another ….. That’s another problem the authorstates in the article; how we humans are easily distracted in the internet by all the information we can find there. We literally can’t focus on one topic and open up many tabs at a time causingmultitasking and based on what the author said in the article multitasking students did worse than non-multitasking students on test. This multitasking leads to another factor in which makes us look dumber,skimming. For example, when I find a lot of articles that interest me at a time I just tab them and either I sometimes read the articles completely or just skim through them in order to find what mostlyinterest me. I love to learn about what is going on in the world and the internet helps me achieve that, but it doesn’t hide the fact that the internet is BIG distraction. There is so many interestingtopics, news, blogs, videos, etc. in the internet and we wish to see them all, which in my opinion is what leads to this misconception of us becoming “stupider”.
