Delivery Specifications
Material packed in 10 or 20 ft containers. Deep harbor at Studsvik for deliveries by ship. StandardAcceptance Criteria • Surface dose rate ≤ 0.1 mSv/h on an individual waste package. No more than 5 % of total delivery 0.1 – 1.0 mSv/h • Transparent plastic bags • Maximum volume 0.125 m3/bag • Plasticthickness ≥ 0.1 mm • Maximum weight 25 kg/bag • Medium density of pre-compacted waste 200 kg/m3. Waste with a density exceeding 200 kg/m3 may be handled after approval Waste not in compliance with theStandard Acceptance Criteria may be accepted after special agreement.
Incineration of NPP DAW
Studsvik incinerates dry radioactive waste, mainly comprising plastic, textiles and cellulose, in the formof protective clothing, rags, paper etc.
Restrictions Acceptable Materials: • Proportion of non-combustible material in one shipment < 20 % of the waste weight • PVC. Accepted if ≤ 5 % of totalwaste weight/container • Rubber. Accepted if ≤ 5 % of total delivered weight • Transuranium elements within normal levels for waste produced under normal reactor operation Non-acceptable Materials: •Active carbon • Steel frames (e.g. from filters) • Blasting material (sand, grits, glass pearls) • Cables • Free liquids • Materials that are explosive or that may self-ignite • Toxic, hazardousmaterials, such as PCB, benzopyrenes, etc. • Materials with sharp edges • Asbestos • Sulfides and/or compounds containing F, Cl, Br and I must be individually examined
