today i come to speak about a traditional festival in peru
the virgen of carmen
to four hours from Cusco, in the town of Paucartambo, every year thousandsof devotees attend this celebration in honor to the virgen of carmen
the Virgen is known locally as Mamacha carmen. she is the patron saint of the mestizo population and she represent the culttowards the Pachamama.
this festival takes places for three days , from july 15 to 17
this festival offers a blend of religious devotion and inca tradition. here we can appreciate a colorful paradefilled with music . choirs that sing in quechua and lots of tradicional and significant dances that represent different Peruvian history dramatizaciones.
on the main day of celebration , the image of theVirgen goes out on proccesion by the town streets to bless those participants and scare way demons that they are dancers called saqra. they practice risky pirouettes over the roofs
this is a showthat mixes paganism and faith. the fight between the good over the evil where good ones win
here you will find a vibrant scene that is both religiously hallowed and culturally rich
i don´t meetPaucartambo -Cusco but i really would like to travel for this festival.
