Uso:
Estado o situación permanente: I live in the town where I was born.
Un hecho o una verdad: The earth goes around the sun.
Rutina diaria*: I get up at seven o’clock.
*Adverbios de frecuencia: always, never, sometimes, often, quite often, usually, rarely, seldom,hardly-ever, once a week, twice a week, three times a week.
Do you ever…?, How often…?
Posición: (Detrás del verbo con to be: She is never at work)/Delante del verbo con el resto de verbos: She never goes to the gym)./  "Usually", "normally", "generally", "frequently", "sometimes" y "occasionally" pueden colocarse al principio o al final de la oración para dar más énfasis.
Las expresiones defrecuencia formadas con "every", "most" o "some" pueden ir en posición final o inicial (Some day, everyday..)

*El verbo “to be” se puede contraer.
Uso:
Situación temporal: I’m livingwith my uncle while they are painting my house
Hechos que ocurren en el momento de hablar/ acciones en progreso no necesariamente en el momento de hablar/hechos en desarrollo: I can’t talk to you because I’m driving now/ I’m studying three foreign languages/ The town is growing quickly.
Quejas: You are always using the telephone. (Suelen ir con “always”)
*Adverbios: now , at the moment, at thismoment, this year, this week, right now, at present, today…
State verbs
Algunos verbos no se conjugan en ningún tiempo verbal continuo cuando describen estados:
Thoughts: believe, know, remember, forget, think, feel, guess, suppose, understand…
Feelings: like, want, hate, need, prefer…
Senses: smell, taste, hear, see.
Possession: have, belong, own, contain, seem, include...
Existence:exist, remain, consist, seem, matter, to be...

Think: creer, pensar, opinar… Se puede poner en continuo cuando significa PENSAR/ No se puede poner cuando significa CREER/OPINAR.
Have: tener, poseer, tomar… Se puede poner en continuo cuando significa EXPERIMENTAR, TOMAR/ No se puede poner cuando significa TENER/POSEER.
