IS ANIMAL TESTING WORTHWHILE?

In general, testing is finding out how well something works. In terms of human beings, testing tells what level of knowledge or skill has been learnt. The primarypurpose of medical research is to promote human health, and the most direct research methods have involved the use of animals in several situations and have been considered as a normal way for a longtime.

The most important reason what support it, is to save human lives to establish if there is some aspect of a drug or treatment that could be harmful or fatal. But it is clear that science hasmade significant progress and it has gone too far from ancient research methods, consequently, we must pay considerable attention to the concept of replacing the use of animal for this purpose. Accordingto this statement, we can find many arguments to change this situation.

One of these, is the evident difference in anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry between humans and animals, thereforeresults from research on animals cannot be accurately extrapolated to humans and are poor predictors for how humans would respond to drugs, treatments, or diseases.
In spite of the fact that mammalsregularly share the same basic organs as humans – such as a heart, lungs and liver; experimental animals may react badly to things that would not harm a human and it is due to the specie’s differences. Inaddition, some harmful chemicals may be pronounced safe for human use, because they produce no ill effects in animals, but we cannot feel sure seeing that they have not been exposed to the sameamount of a substance which a human would get. For this reason, researchers at the sixth World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences, held in Tokyo in 2007, estimated that falsepositives could prevail over false negatives on 75 times.

In second place, we can mention the high probability of unexpected reactions. Even though pharmaceuticals are routinely tested on animals...
