Something strange happened last week. A man called Manuel was biting for a shark; another man gave testimony about Manuel was killed. He said that Manuel was afisherman; he had a boy called Rafael and a wife called Clara.
Rafael is eight years old, it´s a terrible thing for the young boy because he saw his father die.Rafael´s uncle said that something happened to the fishing net. Manuel went into the water to do something with them, and suddenly a shark bit him. But the man didn´t knowwhat happened exactly.
It is a complete surprise. There was nothing anyone could do. The shark came up from deep water. It bit off one of Manuel´s leg. A clean biteabove the knee.
The other man that was with Manuel in this moment, tried to stop the blood but it was impossible.
Rafael´s uncle said that Manuel felt no pain too butafter a few minutes he went very white. Then he began to feel very cold.
Suddenly he smoked a cigarette and he talked to little Rafael telling the words: “Be a good son”and “Help your mother”. These words are exciting to Rafael. This is why Rafael says that when he grows up he is going to become a good fisherman but, every few months, heis going to do something strange. When the butcher kills an animal, Rafael is going to take the skin and the stomach, the insides of the animal that nobody wants. Then,he is going to go out in his boat far from the shore. There he is going to throw the pieces of the animal into the sea to kill one o two sharks. Because the sharkstastes the blood when it is in the sea.
Now, Rafael and his mother are living alone in their house at the end of the village. Manuel´s brother Ricardo helps Clara with money.
