UNNECESSARY SUBJECTS IN LANGUAGE DEGREE
In language degree there are a set of subjects that have no relevance such as “ética,” “cultura ambiental,” or “derechos humanos” that had zero relevance inlanguages. However, students have to take those subjects in order to graduate of university because, if they do not take them they cannot finish the degree. There are several subjects that arecomplete unnecessary in the language degree insomuch as, many subjects are the same content, are not related to languages or are the same subjects per each language.
The content in methodologicalsubjects is basically the same. All methodology subjects have the same topics but with different names. There are around 5 subjects in which the teachers use the same book because is the same content. So,there is no point repeating the topics if they can be learning something new. Students waste their time doing researches that they will probably never use for that reason, they feel bored to studysomething that they have already studied. In language degree methodological subjects are given 6 hours a week on the contrary of English, French or Italian that are only 5 hours a week. The truth is thatin language degree languages should be given more hours.
There are subjects that are not related to languages. Some subjects are in the curriculum just to fill the empty spaces for example“pensamiento matemático” math have nothing to do with languages. Therefore, there is a huge amount of students that fail in math. Unfortunately those subjects are obligatory, students are forced to take all corerequirements because if they do not they cannot graduate even if they have good grades. Most of the time those core requirements are the reason of not to graduate because of they are dragging thosekinds of subjects. For that reason, it is not acceptable that core requirements be more important that French, Italian or English.
