Lesson Plan – Assignment I (Each One Teach One)

TOPIC - BEADED JEWELERY - Make What You Wear

Objectives and Purpose – What will be learned and why it is useful
A lesson will betaught on ‘Beaded Jewelry – Make What You Wear’. This lesson on Beaded Jewelry will be offered as a part of a summer program course for troubled female teens, as a career alternative or hobby. Itis geared towards teens between the ages of fifteen to eighteen. The class size, approximately 30-35 girls, and no experience in jewelry making or art and design is necessary (even thoughthat would be helpful). This lesson will be conducted over a six two hour sessions.
Objectives – Specify skills/information that will be learned

1. Students will learn how to makebeaded jewelry.
2. Students will learn and in turn be able to use the appropriate terminology with regards to the materials used and the process.
3. Students will learn how to sort beadsin various patterns (with regards to shape, size and colour) increasing the aesthetic value of the piece of jewelry.

Information – Give and/or demonstrate necessary information
1.Lecture/presentation on the tools and materials needed and the process of making beaded jewelry.

Verification – Steps to check for student understanding
1. Class activity – Students willhave to name the tools and materials one by one as called upon by the teacher.

Activities – Describe the independent activity to reinforce this lesson
Students will now create their ownpieces of beaded jewelry based on the information given to them.

Summary –

The aim of this lesson is to give troubled female teens the opportunity to learn a skill, have a careeroption, and consequently, have an alternative to deviant behavior.

Materials –

Assortment of beads
3mm crimp beads
Round nose / bird beak, grip pliers
Stretchy cord / memory wire
