A literary genre is a category of literary composition

Genres may be determined by technique(author's style), tone(emotions or feelings through words), content(information included) or even( as in the case of fiction) length.

Genre should not be confused with age category(adult, young-adult, or children's).

They also must not be confused with format, such as graphic novel orpicture book.

A) The most general genres in literature are (in loose chronological order) epic, tragedy, comedy, novel, short story, and creative nonfiction.
They can all be in the genres prose or poetry, which shows best how loosely genres are defined.
All other genres and sub genres can be considered part of or a mixture of genres

B) There are two main genres of literature: poetryand prose

Poetry is a composition of written verses that may or may not follow rhythms and rhymes
Verse: writing which is arranged in short lines with a regular rhythm
Rhythm is a strong pattern of words or sounds
Rhymes: words which rhyme have the same last sound

Poetry has three types:
-Narrative
-Lyric
Dramatic

Lyric poetry is the most common type of poetry, as it deals with anauthor's own emotions and views

Notable lyric poets have included John Donne, Gerard Manley Hopkins, Antonio Machado, and T.S Eliot.

Dramatic poetry is drama written in verse to be spoken or sung, and appears varying, sometimes related forms in many cultures.

Verse drama may have developed out of earlier oral epics, such as the sanskrit and greek epics.

Notable dramatic poets haveincluded Christopher Marlowe, William Shakespeare, George and Bernard Shaw

Prose are literary works that do not adhere to any structure, only language and grammar.

Fiction is any form of narrative which deals, in part or in whole, with events that are not factual, but rather, imaginary and invented by its author.

Non-fiction is an account or representation of a subject which is presented as a fact.

Thispresentation may be accurate or not, that is, it can give either a true or false account of the subject in question.
However, it is generally assumed that the authors of such accounts believe them to be truthful at the time of their composition.

Nonfiction can also be written about fiction, giving information about these other works
