Academic Requirements
FIU Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine (HWCOM) has set forth minimum academic requirements and developeda list of required and recommended coursework for applicants to HWCOM. A minimum GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale), a BCPM of 3.0, and a combined MCAT score of 25 are required for regular admission; aminimum GPA of 3.7, BCPM of 3.5, and a combined MCAT score of 35 for Early Decision. HWCOM course requirements and recommendations are similar to those required by other institutions and those outlined bythe Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC): • General Biology with laboratory: 2 semesters • General Inorganic Chemistry with laboratory: 2 semesters • Organic Chemistry with laboratory: 2semesters • Physics with laboratory: 2 semesters • Mathematics: 2 semesters of Calculus, 2 semesters of Statistics, or 1 semester of each • English and English Composition: 2 semesters • Demonstratedproficiency in spoken and written English A bachelor's (baccalaureate) degree is required for all students attending HWCOM. All coursework must be completed in a satisfactory manner in an educationalinstitution located in the United States or Canada, approved by a regional accrediting body, and listed in the current Education Directory of the U.S. Office of Education. Applicants with baccalaureatedegrees from accredited non-U.S. institutions will be considered on a case -by-case basis.
