It is a person’s physical or psychological need to take a drug or drugs. Taking the drug gives the person a false sense of well binging
There are two kinds of drug dependencesometimes a drug abuser believes he or she needs a certain drug to feel all right even when this is not true this is called emotional dependence sometimes a drug abuser needs a certain drug to prevent unpleasant physical dependence
People who abuse illegal drugs build tolerance to the drugs that they take over a long time. A drug abuser must take larger amounts of a drug in order to have the samefeeling that smaller amounts once caused in this way tolerance leads drug abuser to keep adding to the amount of illegal drugs they take
Chronic drug abuser of ten exhibit three traits. First theyhave low self esteem they don’t feel good about themselves and are dependent on others for their self worth.
Second, the lack emotional control they allow negative feelings to affect their behavior andthey feel chronically miserable. Third, they have difficulty establishing close relationships love and intimacy seems always to elude them.
People start to misuse drug for different reasons. Theymay take medicines without following the directions exactly they may take too much medicine o take a medicine too often. After a while, they realize that they are harming themselves and are unable tostop. They have become dependent on the drug.
Other people star abusing drugs on purpose they start taking drugs because other people talk them into it they may be told that drug abuse in fun, harmlessor exciting or that other people will admire them for taking drugs
Many people who abuse drugs believe that they will use the drug only a few times.
