Executive Summary
In January 2010, McAfee, Inc., commissioned Forrester Research to examine the financial impact and potential return oninvestment (ROI) that organizations might realize from implementing McAfee’s Data Loss Prevention (DLP) solutions. This study highlights the benefits and costs of deploying the McAfee DLP solution across the enterprise of a sample Organization (see The Sample Organization Description section). The findings in this study are in large part based on in-depth interviews conducted by Forrester with fourorganizations currently using McAfee DLP solutions. The study examines the estimated ROI for the sample Organization and presents the aggregate findings derived from the interviews and analysis process as well as our independent research. From interviews conducted by Forrester, it was determined that our Organization’s use of McAfee’s DLP solutions contributed significantly to the followingquantifiable benefit and savings categories: The benefits of avoiding security data breaches in high-profile, highly regulated organizations. Savings in the use of McAfee DLP Discover to satisfy a subpoena and/or to prove compliance for auditors or regulators. Time savings in determining the severity of a breach and determining if any confidential data has left the Organization. Based on our interviews,Forrester projects a three-year risk-adjusted total net present value (NPV) of $220,643, representing the net costs and benefits attributed to using the McAfee DLP solution versus the Organization’s previous tool sets (see details below in the Costs, Benefits, Flexibility, And Risks section). In addition, the risk-adjusted ROI was a favorable 34%, and the payback period was within 20 months....
