I generally agree with the points that are made by Mirandés. Amongst other points, he explains the following:

* In the process of learning we are all different
* What is intelligence? Itcan be measured in a variety of different ways
* Human intelligence is the ability of choice, development of ideas etc
* Education, therefore is necessary from the start
* In the case ofgifted and talented children, we have to make sure that the best output takes place, with adequate development.
* Everyone has different learning styles,
* A gifted child can help others inclass

I agree with these points and think that a gifted child can be of great help to other learners in the class, something I have been trying to develop in my classroom this year through theimplementation of group learning. Children have found this to be very enjoyable and stimulating way of learning.

Everyone learns in different ways, and at different speeds. Everyone respondsdifferently to different stimuli. Teachers are aware of this and that is why they plan a variety of activities into their lesson plans.

However, he says very little about the role of the teachers. It istrue that children need to be diagnosed by professionals, but teachers need to have adequate training and resources in order to do this.

There must be a partnership and direct relationshipbetween teachers and universities studying “superdotación”. It is not the fault of the teachers that there is a confusion between a child being gifted and talented and a high achiever in school, rather itis a fault of the system of training the teachers receive.

On the other hand, it is important not to preach to the teachers and professionals involved. Although a very important part of teaching,identifying and working with children who are gifted and talented is not the only thing teachers have to plan for in the classroom.
