This paper presents anintroduction to KohIberg's theory of moral
stages, a theory elosely related to Piaget's theory of cognitive developmento Kohlberg's research on moral reasoning, using an interview com,
posed ofmoral judgment dilemmas, has distinguished three levels and
six stages of moral development, These developmental moral stages have
the same characteristics of Piaget's cognitive stages, and eachineludes a
set of values, certain reasons and a given social perspective. The two
basic factors for moral development are cognitive development and the
opportunities for role-taking. Kohlberg's theory hasmade possible a
new approach to moral education.
