Welcome to sheffIeld and sheffIeld hallam unIversIty
Our three day orientation programme provides you with essential information to help you settle into life in the UK. It is also an ideal opportunity to meet other new students and explore the city together.
You will hear from a range of peopleand organisations and receive practical advice on living and studying in Sheffield. We have also organised social activities, including • a trip to Chatsworth House • tours around Sheffield Cathedral and Cutlers’ Hall • a walk into the Peak District • a film screening • shopping trips

International student society
A great way to meet other international students is to join the InternationalStudent Society in the Students’ Union. You can join for free by signing up at the HUBS reception desk. They also have a Facebook group which is a great way to find out about events in and around Sheffield. Search for ‘SHU International’ on Facebook.

arriving at sheffield hallam
When you arrive, report to the meet and greet desk based on level 5 of the Owen Building. The desk will be open 9am–6pm,Monday 5–Friday 16 September. our student crew will help you with any questions you have and give you information about social events and activities. If you arrive before 5 September or after 16 September, visit Student and Learning Services reception on level 5 of the Owen Building. You can also come and talk to us at any time during your stay in Sheffield.

orientation
the orientation programme takes place on 14, 15 and 16 September. It provides you with information about the University, the services we provide, and studying and living in Sheffield. You will also meet and make friends with people from allover the world – including UK students. Previous students have found the orientation programme ‘really helpful and informative’ and ‘a great way to meet people in the same situation as you’.

International student support team

messages, internet and telephones
You can leave messages for fellow students on the message board at the meet and greet desk from 5–16 September. Wireless access isavailable on floors 3 and 4 of the Atrium and you can use University computers once you have pre-enrolled.

meals and breaks during orientation
lunch is provided on Wednesday 14 September only. You will need to bring your own lunch on thursday and Friday – or visit one of the University’s many catering facilities.

gETTINg INVOLVED
You will meet British students at our social events. However, there arealso opportunities to get involved in projects related to their studies. The Education Project helps UK students research education from around the word. International students talk to them about their experience as students in their counties. You are not expected to be an expert and you are invited to an information session to prepare you. The Hospitality Project helps our final year hospitalitystudents to deliver an international event which is assessed as part of their course. You work alongside them, offering advice on your culture and traditional food to help them deliver an authentic event.
